FREE Carriage Rides

This year we welcome The Sunflower Headlights to entertain our guests. This self-described “motley band of wayward Chicago musicians” deliver folk rock tunes influenced by the sounds of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Join Us for our annual Chocolate Festival

Long Grove’s Chocolate Festival returns to our historic village streets in May. It’s been 25 years since the start of this sweet celebration which first praised this marvelous confection with a festival in May 2000. Attendees of this year’s event are invited to feast on chocolate goodies, chocolate-infused drinks, and specialty menu items at restaurants and food booths. This family-friendly festival wouldn’t be complete without three days of entertainment, live music, carnival rides, games and more.


Location

The festival is spread throughout the downtown business district which surrounds the intersection of Robert Parker Coffin and Old Mchenry Roads. The downtown Visitors’ Center is located at 145 Old McHenry Rd., Long Grove, IL 60047

Free Parking is limited in downtown lots and at the remote parking lot. Ride sharing services are highly recommended. There are also paid lots available nearby. See map for details.

Many shops get into the festival spirit by offering chocolate-themed merchandise.

Hayrides

Take a trip around our downtown area on the tractor-drawn hay wagon. Rides leave on the hour and begin each day at 12 pm from the driveway next to Bella Donna Boutique, 420 Robert Parker Coffin Road. Stops throughout town include Brothers’ Field, Sunset Pavilion, The Mill Pond Shops and Towner Green.

Kids Activities

Families can enjoy an assortment of fun things to do over at the Sunset Pavilion located on Archer Road across from the Archer Parking Lot.

Participating merchants in downtown Long Grove

Businesses in historic downtown Long Grove will stay open late for grown-up witches and warlocks to have fun shopping, sipping, and dining! Participating businesses will have specials, discounts, giveaways, and more. Witches who register in advance or at the event will be entered to win $25 Gift Cards and Certificates from our downtown Long Grove merchants throughout the night!

Registration is not required, but strongly recommended.

DIY Scarecrow Day

Join us for a fantastic fall afternoon making a scarecrow to be displayed in Historic Downtown Long Grove! Over the years we’ve watched scarecrow engineers construct superheroes, cartoon characters, make-believe monsters and more. 

We encourage you to get creative with your designs. Builders should bring clothes, hats, shoes, accessories and any other items they want for customizing their scarecrow. (If you have an extra plastic milk jug for the head, please bring one).

Cost: $10 per scarecrow (station) to be donated to the HDLGBA (Non-refundable)

  • Each station may have a maximum of six people working 
  • Each station includes a frame, and stuffing to build one scarecrow (clothing, shoes, and accessories are not included)
  • The event will be held outside so please dress accordingly
  • Rain or shine (unless there is severe weather)
  • Please arrive on time. You may lose your time slot if you arrive more than 10 minutes late.

Registration is required. Walk-ins accepted if space allows throughout the event.

Local dogs throughout the area are invited to show off their best Halloween Costumes at the Historic Downtown Long Grove Annual Pet Costume Parade! Upon arrival you will check in and register your dog into one of three different categories. We can’t wait to see your pups all dressed up!

There will be one winner per category:

• Most Unique Costume
• Judge’s Favorite

Historic downtown Long Grove invites you to rediscover the magic of the holidays this season. Vintage Holidays in Long Grove is what the classic holiday small town experience is all about—quaint shops, old-world charm, and family memories. Organized by the Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association, Vintage Holidays 2024 will feature:

Light up Long Grove and Holiday Kick-off

Discover why Long Grove was named as one of the “10 best Christmas towns in America” by FOX News. On Friday, November 22, 6–8 pm, we welcome you to join our historic downtown business district as we light up town for the holiday season.

  • Stores open late for holiday shopping
  • Enjoy festive lights, window displays and more at individual businesses and throughout town
  • Illuminated photo stations around town
  • Visit with Santa (schedule of locations TBD)
  • Bridge Lighting at 7:30 pm with guest appearance by Village President, Bill Jacob

Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides

Carriage rides are one of our most beloved activities during our Vintage Holidays season. Passengers are invited to sit back and take in the nostalgia of our historic downtown as the clattering of horse hooves lead the way.

Ride Fees
Reservations are $15 per seat (ages 5 and under ride free on an adult’s lap). 

Registration
We are again offering pre-registration for our 10-seater carriage. Please sign up at the link below and have the waiver filled out before your ride is to begin. You will need to bring your waiver with you to your ride*.  


*Rides may be cancelled due to inclement weather for the safety of the horses and our guests. If this should happen, refunds will be issued for reservations.

Visitors who stroll historic downtown Long Grove during Vintage Holidays will not only enjoy the sights but the sounds of the holiday season too, with festive holiday carolers setting the tone. We are excited to again welcome our amazing carolers to the Village of Long Grove this season.
